About our products
Each of our maps is offered for purchase in three finishes: Printed maps allow you to select the finishing after you receive the map, and to save on shipping costs. Plak Mount is a technique of laminating the print onto a lightweight board, and protecting it with a non-glare overlaminate against elements and harmful UV rays. Comes with a beveled edge and a built-in groove for mounting. Quality custom framing presents your antique map in all its beauty. Please choose one of our carefully selected frames and acid-free mats. Note: Map sizes are rounded to the nearest inch.
How do I place an order? When you are interested in purchasing a map, click the "Add to Cart" link. For framed products, the link will open a new window where you can choose from a variety of frames and mats. After you've added an item, a "Thank You" dialog box confirms that your selection has been recorded. To view items in your shopping cart, click the "Shopping Cart" link at the bottom of the page. You may remove items from your shopping cart at any time. To change finishing options, remove the item, return to our Map Gallery and make your selection again. To complete your order, proceed to our secure Order Page by clicking the "Checkout" link.
On our secure Order Page, please fill in the necessary information. Requred fields are marked with an asterisk ( * ). Based on your address and shipping method, shipping fees and any applicable taxes will be added to your Subtotal. Upon completion of the form, simply clik the "Submit" button and the order will be sent for processing. You will receive a confirmation e-mail shortly. Note: Shipping fees for destinations outside Canada and the United States cannot be calculated automatically - we will inform you of your Total by e-mail.
Can I place the order off-line? Absolutely! If you don't feel comfortable with submiting your personal information online, you can simply print out the Order Page and send it to us by mail or fax. Or, you can finish the complete ordering process over the telephone.

What are the payment options? We accept payment by credit card, check and money order. You can also send your payment by e-mail (see with your financial institution if they offer this kind of service). Checks and money orders are accepted in Canadian or U.S. funds only. Payment by credit card is the simplest and fastest option. Simply fill in the appropriate fields on the Order page and submit it online. You can also leave the credit card information blank and submit it later over the telephone. Once the information is verified, we will immediately process your order. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. For other payment options, please make your check or money order payable to Terra Incognita Maps. Please note that certified checks are processed much faster. Please see the Can I place the order off-line section for our address and telephone/fax number.
Can I complete my order at a later date? Yes, you can. Each item you add to the Shopping Cart will remain there for 30 days. You can visit Terra Incognita at a later time, review your selection, and then proceed to the checkout. Note: To ensure privacy, contents of your shopping cart are actually saved in a so-called "cookie" - a small text file stored on your computer. Therefore, if you decide to clean up your cookies (you will seldom need to do that, as cookies are automatically deleted when they expire), make sure you retain the Terra Incognita cookies - otherwise you may return to an empty Shopping Cart.
How long does it take to process an order? Once the order is verified, we immediately begin working on your map. For printed products, it will take no more than 3-4 business days. Custom framing and plak mounting take more time, but we're fast: our normal time to build your custom framed or mounted map is 5 to 7 business days. In the rare and unlikely event that we are out of a specific mat or frame you requested, we will notify you immediately. After your order is shipped from our business office, it still needs some time to arrive at the final destination. Please check out the Shipping section for more information.
How are the taxes calculated? For residents of Canada, taxes will be calculated based on the tax rate applicable for their billing address. Sales outside of Canada are not subject to tax.
Is it safe for me to submit credit card information? When you click "Submit" on our secure Order Page, the complete form (including credit card information) is sent using encrypted SSL transfer. It means that absolutely no one else on the Internet is able to read your credit card information. We use the industry-standard Digital Certificate to verify that we are who we say we are, and that encrypted information was not tampered width during the transfer. To check the validity of our Digital Certificate, please click on the "padlock" icon in the status bar (at the very bottom) of the secure page. To enhance the security even further, the information is immediately sent to our business office (also using the encrypted SSL transfer), and never resides on the Web server longer than a few seconds.
How do you protect my personal information? Terra Incognita does not sell or share your personal information with any individual, business or agency. It is not retained on our Web server. The information you submit is used solely for the purpose of processing your order - and absolutely nothing else! Shipping in Canada For shipping within Canada, Terra Incognita uses two types of service: regular (2-6 business days) or express (1-2 business days). Approximate rates are as follows (we will inform you of the exact rate when you place your order):

For U.S. shipping, we offer Regular (4-5 business days) and Express (2 business days) service. For simplicity, we've divided the U.S. states in two zones: New York, West Virginia, Vermont, Michigan, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio, New Hampshire, Maryland and Maine belong to Zone 1, while most other states belong to Zone 2. Approximate rates are as follows:
International Shipping Overseas shipping rates vary by carrier, destination and the speed of the service. For each particular case, Terra Incognita searches for best solutions and suggests 2 or 3 options that will meet your needs and budget. In general, 2 business days delivery is available to major International destinations using either FedEx or Purolator/DHL service, but the fees may be quite prohibitive. Outside of major centres, these shipments are taken over by local carriers, which may add another day or two to the delivery time. Regular air parcel will, in most cases, provide a more realistic solution, while 4-6 weeks service tends to be most cost-effective.
What is Terra's Return Policy? We print our maps individually, only upon receipt of paid orders. Moreover, we often customize our products (see the Gift Ideas page for details on custom options). Therefore we cannot offer refunds. Traditionally, custom framed prints cannot be returned.
What if the shipment arrives damaged? Although we take every precaution to ensure your package arrives to you safely, we have no control over the shipment once it leaves our facility and is en route to you. If shipment arrives and the package appears to be damaged, please do not accept the package and notify us immediately by e-mail or phone/fax (905-844-3488). As soon as the shipment is returned to us, we will prepare and ship an identical replacement to you at no charge.
What if I find a damaged item after I open an undamaged package? If you open your apparently undamaged shipment and find that the product inside is damaged, notify us immediately by e-mail or phone/fax (905-844-3488). The damaged product must be returned to us. Please make every effort to package the item as it was shipped to you. You are responsible for return shipping charges. Once we receive the product, we will immediately prepare and ship an identical replacement to you at no extra charge.
Do you offer discounts for larger orders? Yes, we definitely do. If the value of your purchase is more than $1,500.00, or if you buy a minimum of 10 copies of the same map in the same finish, we will be glad to offer you a 15% discount. (This discount will be applied at time of processing and will not show in your shopping cart or the online Order Page.) The best way to obtain information on discounts for larger corporate orders, or on reseller pricing, is to send us an e-mail with all the details. We will typically respond within 24 hours.
Gift Certificates Terra Incognita offers personalized gift certificates. A tastefully printed certificate with your name, the recipient's name, and occasion, will be mailed to arrive on the date you specify. After entering the certificate number in the order form, the certificate value will be deducted from the total. Any unused balance will remain associated with the certificate and may be used at a later date. If the order exceeds the certificate value, the recipient will be required to pay for the balance. All gift certificates and unused balances expire one year from the purchase.

General public may use the Terra Incognita site without providing any information; however, if you choose to submit the online order form when purchasing our products, you will be asked to provide personal and/or corporate information such as the name, company, position, address, e-mail address, and phone number.
How is the collected information used? Terra Incognita recognizes and appreciates the importance of responsible use of information collected on this site.
